    Description

HK 575 Alaska Festival of Music VERY RARE 21-50 Pieces Known.
The purpose of this coin was "To Bring to Alaska each year "the priceless privilege of hearing and performing in great orchestral, choral and choral-orchestral music"; to give all music lovers "a profound insight into its spirit and structure" through concerts, recitals, lectures and public and private instruction."
Per Hibler & Kappen; "Official medals sponsored by Festival to commemorate fifth anniversary; designed by Paul Hoblit; Struck by Herff Jones, Inc, Indianapolis. Issue limited to 300 sterling silver ... dies destroyed December 1960 per sponsor's advice."
This coin is marked on the edge: "Herff Jones Sterling" as indicated in Hibler & Kappens definitive work on so-called dollars.
H&K categorizes this medal as "very rare" - 21 to 50 pieces known.
This is a beautiful piece. Finest known? I don't know - this is the only one I've ever seen. I collected it 30 years ago and now I am selling my so-called dollars to purchase other cool coins.
A portion of the proceeds are given to a home for children which does not rely upon government funding. It is a very worthy cause run by professionals and highly trained specialists who work especially hard to transform children in need of serious help into happy, functioning adults of tomorrow. To give a little through a simple purchase is to give a lot to those in need.
