    Description

    HK-415A, Shevlin 18-6, State Fund Dollar, NGC MS-63PL.
    One of the several Exposition State Dollar designs, a souvenir of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. This is the scarcest of the four major "Expo State" SCD varieties (other than the extremely rare Gustave Fox version), and tough to find with surfaces this nice. The relatively fragile Gilt surfaces tended to show chips and marks almost immediately upon being handled. Obvious DEEP watery Prooflike surfaces, very close to DMPL. I own an MS-62DMPL piece, and this is almost indistinguishable as far as the difference goes in surface. If it had come back DMPL, it would be the second finest known. Some minor scuffing on the gilt surface, mainly on the Reverse as usual, is all that limits the numerical grade. Priced in Shevlin at 5 in MS-63, which I assume is for a P/L as this is the way they normally come.
