    Description

HK-389, Official Souvenir of the 1909 Portola Festival, held in San Francisco, California.  Holed as sold, round hole used for mounting on a ribbon badge. This also comes with a "slot" style hole, used for those sold on a watch strap.
The two styles of "hole" seem to be roughly the same in terms of availability based upon my twenty+ years of searching; unfortunately, NGC does not distinguish on their labels.
Very scarce as a Type, flat out RARE if you can find one in Uncirculated grades
.  This is a decent original example, some minor rim issues as is almost always the case.
This is one of the 20th Century Keys to the So Called Dollar series in higher grades, and not commonly made available although price does not reflect this. Not in the Shevlin reference as the event was not considered an official Exposition. Rather, this event and the 1913 Portola Festival were Chamber of Commerce-type "booster" events.  The 1909 happening as the City celebrated survival after the 1906 Earthquake and Fire, the 1913 Festival was a lead in to advertise the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition.  FYI, I am a major collector of all things "Portola" (other than postcards), so if you have something interesting, feel free to offer it to me for consideration.  I am happy to combine shipping for multiple items – please use the ebay Shopping Cart feature and ASK FOR AN INVOICE before payment.
