    Description

This is an ANACS Lesher 1900 Medal So-Called Dollar HK-787 Type 1 No. 87 AU 50 Details.  During troubling times at the turn of the 19th century, Joseph Lesher, a miner and real estate investor, had an idea to make something that people would accept as trade/pay for merchandise and other services.  He privately minted octagonal silver coinage, or so-called dollars.  All told he minted twenty different Lesher Referendum Dollars, with 11 varieties and six types with a known number of these coins being 546 examples.  His efforts did not unfold as he had imagined making these dollars quite a rarity, and an interesting topic of discussion and for collecting.
All of these Lesher Dollars are octagonal with a plain edge, and the medals made in 1900 are 35 mm and one Troy oz., while those of 1901 are 32 mm with the same weight of a standard silver dollar, or 412 1/2 grains of silver.  This is a great collectible and will certainly make a collector happy to add one to their collection!
