1940 CHUNGKING Chiang Kai-Shek's W.W. II CAPITAL of CHINA Type 2 "100 YUAN" Note
    Description
This is a presentable, World War II veteran
    "100 Yüan"
    note from the
    "Bank of China"
at Chungking. It is dated 1940 during the war. These were printed by the American Bank Note Company. This is type 2 with the serial numbers printed only on the face and CHUNKING on the back.
From 1937 to 1946, Chungking was Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek's and Free China's capital. Chungking
    (now Chongqing)
was formally declared the capital on September 6, 1940, the year this note was issued. After Britain, the United States, and other Allies entered the war, in December of 1941, one of the Allied commanders, United States General Joseph Stilwell, was based in the city. This made it a city of world importance in the fight against Axis powers, together with London, Moscow and Washington, D.C.
