    Description
    This is a large, historically significant, Medal or
    “So-Called Dollar”
    celebrating the
    "125th Anniversary of the Evacuation of Boston"
    by the British in 1776.
    It was produced by the Whitehead & Hoag Company of Newark, New Jersey and handed out to school children in Boston in 1901. The reverse reproduces the only
    "Gold Medal"
    ever awarded to George Washington by the Federal Government. It was awarded by Resolution of the Continental Congress March 25, 1776.

    Boston Recaptured March 17, 1776
    . • General George Washington and four aids, mounted. standing on Dorchester Heights overlooking the city and harbor from which the British vessels are retreating, two sets of cannons and shot, in foreground and with fortifications below.
    When Henry Knox succeeded in bringing the cannons, all the way from Ticonderoga and Crown Point, they placed them on Dorchester Heights. The British said ****!, and got out of town as quickly as they could. Fort Knox, Kentucky is named for Henry.

    . Still in nice condition with lots of the original detail still evident. It has been holed for wearing with a ribbon I believe. Totally original, it has never been cleaned. As grading is subjective please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
